It is a fact that far from separating the affairs of religion and state from each other, Islam fuses them together. It intends to attach not only the inner worlds of the individuals, but also their behaviours within the state to the sublime rules. Therefore, the steps that were taken by the state of Turkey in the direction of laicism were perceived as a direct attack on the Islamic culture. Although some of the reforms of the Atatürk period were seen as directly concerning the religion itself, they were also the legal means the founding cadres of the Republic used to transform the society.
